Boonville - Alice Newton Spring, 95, affectionately known as "Skip", passed away on November 15, 2010 at Faxton-St. Lukeï¿(TM)s Healthcare, New Hartford, after a short illness. She was born in Geneseo, NY on August 21, 1915, a daughter of Dr. Charles and Gertrude C. (Crenshaw) Spring and grew up in the Geneseo area. Upon graduating from high school, Alice attended Sargent College of Boston University where she majored in physical education. She was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in 1937. From 1937-38 she attended University of Wisconsin, before graduating from SUNY Geneseo in 1939 with a Bachelorï¿(TM)s degree in education. On September 9, 1939, Alice was united in marriage with Royston "Roy" Spring in Geneseo. The couple made their home in Rochester and West Henrietta, where Mrs. Spring was employed as a librarian at the Rochester Public Library. From 1945 until 1975 they lived on Hartford Terrace in New Hartford. While living in New Hartford she was employed as Librarian at Sauquoit Valley High School and Utica Public Library. She later worked as a substitute teacher in the New Hartford and Whitesboro schools. In 1975, Roy and Alice moved to Military Road in Remsen before moving to Boonville in 1987. For many years she was an antique dealer in Boonville and Remsen. Mr. Spring, vice president and former manager of the Utica Branch of Alling & Cory Company, died on February 9, 1990. Mrs. Spring was a member of Dydimus Thomas Library Board, Remsen; a board member of Dodge Pratt Northam Institute, Boonville; and a Club Member of Women of Western Colleges. Skip greatly enjoyed reading, gardening and the companionship and joy she received from her pet dogs. She is survived by two sons and one daughter: Bruce N. Spring of Mt. Kisco, NY, Pollyann Spring of Gales Ferry, CT, and Stephen R. Spring of Bonita Springs, FL and White Lake, NY; four grandchildren, Charles N. Spring of New Hartford, Sandy Lynn Spring of Mohegan Lake, NY, Andrew M. Spring of Soquel, CA, and Theodore R. Spring of Albany, NY; two great-grandchildren, Annie Carin Spring and Riley Jane Spring. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc., 143 Schuyler St., Boonville, where Rev. Robert Wollaber will officiate. Interment will be in Woodgate Cemetery.
