Alfred J Williams

Alfred J. Williams, 94, formerly of Old State Rt. 12, husband of the late Myra, passed away while surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 31, 2012, at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville, where he had resided since 2008. He was born in Utica, on July 4, 1918, a son of Lloyd and Jennie Kilts Williams. He spent his younger life in the Holland Patent and Stittville areas, where he attended school; later he was employed on area farms. On December 9, 1941, he and his brother, Mick, enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the European Theater of WW II, in central Europe, Northern France and in the Rhineland. Cpl. Williams was a part of the first wave of American forces to invade Omaha Beach, Normandy, France, in the Invasion of Normandy, on June 6, 1944. Mr. Williams was honorably discharged on September 20, 1945, at Ft. Dix, NJ. For his military service he was awarded a Distinguished Unit Badge, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with a Bronze Arrowhead and the good conduct metal. On June 5, 1948, Alfred was united in marriage with Myra Felshaw at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Constableville. Thereafter the couple lived in Utica, where Mr. Williams was employed for Niagara Mohawk Power Co., for a time before moving to their home on Old State Rt. 12, near Remsen. In the late 1950's, Mr. Williams went to work as a tractor and fork lift driver at Revere Copper & Brass Co. of Rome. He also maintained a farm with livestock and operated a milk route in Remsen and Holland Patent. He greatly enjoyed working in his large garden at his home. Mr. and Mrs. Williams retired from their farming operation in the mid 1970's and he retired from Revere, in 1981. Mrs. Williams died on January 3, 2010. He is survived by three sons, Brian, Lynn and wife, Doreen, all of Remsen, and Kevin and Dawn Campbell, Forestport; one daughter, Connie Williams, Frankfort; ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The last of his family, Alfred was predeceased by three brothers, Walter, Lloyd and Robert, and by a sister, LeotaWorden. His Funeral will be Thursday at 11:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with interment in the spring in Constableville Rural Cemetery. Visitation hours are Wednesday 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
