Alexandra M. 'Alice' Belewich

Ava- Alexandra M. Belewich, of West Ava Road, widow of Walter, passed away on Friday, September 5, 2014, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica. Affectionately known as Alice, she was born in Windber, PA, on February 23, 1925, a daughter of Stephan and Catherine Radwanski Howanietz. She grew up in the Boonville area, and graduated from Boonville High School with the Class of 1942. Thereafter, during WWII, she was employed at General Cable of Rome. In 1946, Alice was united in marriage with Walter Belewich; at that time the couple purchased a farm near Ava which the couple operated for 35 years. Mr. Belewich passed away in 1990. Alice will be fondly remembered for her excellent cooking skills. For many years she was a cook and baker for Boonville Elks Lodge and she also founded Alexandra's Catering, which she and her family operated. She was a member of the Rome Polish Home, Lee Center Senior Citizens, Lady Elks of Rome, and the Fritz's Polka Band Fan Club. She greatly enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and gardening on the family farm. Alice is survived by a sister Georgeanna Howanietz of Rome; a son and daughter in law, Bill and Barbara Belewich of Ava; grand-daughter Emily, currently ay SUNY Cobleskill; grandson Jacob, currently at the University of Buffalo. Alice is predeceased by a son Larry in 1993; a sister Rose Reczek; and a brother Walter Howanietz. The family extends thanks to the staffs of Sunset Nursing Home and St. Elizabeth's and all others who gave her excellent comfort and car during her final ordeal. Her Funeral Services will be Monday at 1:00 P.M. at her residence at 5648 West Ava Road, Ava, with interment to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, West Leyden. Calling hours are at her residence on Sunday 5-8 p.m. and on Monday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the funeral. Her arrangements are in care of Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
