Lyons Falls - Agnes A. Krug, 100, of Franklin Street, widow of Stephen Krug, the longest living resident of the Village of Lyons Falls, passed away on Saturday March 9, 2013, at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville. She was born on March 17, 1912, in Maspeth, a daughter of Anthony and Mary Cudnik Bigda. At a young age she moved with her family from Long Island to Lewis County, where she attended rural schools. On February 9, 1931 she was united in marriage with Stephen Krug at St. Martin's Church, Port Leyden. After that the couple settled in Lyons Falls, where she had since lived. Their marriage was a union of over 55, years, lasting until September 4, 1986, when, Mr. Krug, a retiree of Gould Paper Co. Lyons Falls, passed away. Agnes has always been the family caretaker. She cared for her husband who was bedridden at home for nearly 10 years prior to his death. She cared for her brother, Tony, at her home prior to his death. At the age of 83, Agnes assumed the care of her 2 year old and her 6 month old grandchildren and raised them through high school. A hardworking person and never idle, Agnes was an avid berry picker; every year picking gallons and gallons of strawberries and blackberries, which she turned into her famous jams and pies even through her 90's. She will also be remembered for her wonderful dill pickles, however, her real claim to fame were the donuts that everyone looked forward to. For many, many years countless fishermen counted on Agnes for their night crawlers. Through her life time, Mrs. Krug had attended St. John's Church, Lyons Falls, and St. Mary's Church, Constableville. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Marmon, two sons: Harold "Butch" Krug, both of Lyons Falls, and Joseph (Marie) Krug, Calis Maine; grandchildren: Christine (Jerry) Gydesen, Bonnie (Richard) Meuller, Kimberly (Michael) Teal; Stephen, Sophie, Tim, Brent (Charlene), and Michael (Sara) Krug. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Christopher, Nicholas, Michael Krug, Tabitha (Bob) Foll, Mandy (Jason) Kilmer, John (Ashley) Teal, and David Meuller, her great-great-grandchildren: Courtney and Cheyenne Foll, Allie and Jack Teal and Lena Kilmer. In addition to her husband, Stephen, Agnes was predeceased by four sisters, Jenny Belmont, Lottie Pelo, Sophie Barboza and Mary Kraeger; three brothers, Zigmund, Teddy and Tony Bigda. A prayer will be Saturday at 9:00 A.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated by at 10:00 A.M. at St. John's Church, Lyons Falls, with Rev. Lawrence Marullo, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Port Leyden, in the spring. Calling hours are Friday 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Altar and Rosary Society of St. John's Catholic Church, Lyons Falls, or St. Mary's Catholic Church, Constableville.
