It is with the heaviest of hearts that the family of Leslie Leo Fey II announce his death on Sunday, June 4, 2023. He was 53.
Born June 13, 1969 in Rome, N.Y., Les was the son of Leslie Leo Fey (deceased) and Mildred “Mitzi” Mumford Fey, West Leyden. Les was a brother to Laurie (Norbert) Hardt of Lempster, N.H., Shelly (Duane) Gilmour of Sherrill, N.Y., as well as Julie (Robert) Kraeger of Constableville, N.Y.
Les was a loving uncle to Erich, Kevin, and Steven Hardt; Anna, Julia, and Alex Gilmour; and Nicholas Kraeger. Les was loved by his father-in law, Richard (Kathy) Peach; and brother-in-law, Richard and his wife Anne. Les leaves behind his wife Jacqueline (Peach) Fey of Nantucket. The two met and fell in love on Nantucket, the island they would later call home. The pair married in West Springfield, Massachusetts in 1997.
Their union produced his greatest legacy: Ethan, Jillian, Gavin, and Evelyn, his four beautiful children, now adults.
Les is the descendant of a long line of woodworkers and craftsmen. He perfected his craft, generating custom works of art for many homes on the island he loved. Les was an artist and appreciated beauty, whether it was a majestic Madaket sunset, creating a seamless piece of furniture, or admiring a Nantucket rose climbing a trellis. He was a man who loved beauty, and he created it.
A graduate of Clarkson University, Les was a beloved member of his alma mater’s fraternity, Beta Tau, and made many lifelong friendships he treasured. He was an active member of his Nantucket community, quietly gave to those in need, and supported a number of charities generously and anonymously. Big on beauty, small on accolades, Les chose to give big and stay quiet and his family loved him for that. He was a man who valued small acts of kindness, appreciated them and strove to give them.
Les knew it was the little things that mattered. He was an example of goodness, kindness and humanity in its shining brilliance and heartbroken frailties. It is said that life never gives one more than they can handle, yet sometimes, life just does anyway.
A funeral was held for Les at Saint Paul’s Church, Nantucket, Ma on Friday, June 16, 2023 followed by a gathering at the Faregrounds Restaurant. Family and friends celebrated Les’ life, loves, triumphs, kindness, joy, friendships built and sustained, and his many passions and accomplishments. In keeping with his spirit of giving, please consider donating to the charity of your choice.
