Remsen- John A. Lukaszek, 75, husband of the late Kathleen, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at the home of and under the loving care of his daughter and son in law, Kimberly and Ronald Scouten and Hospice.
John was born in Utica, on March 30, 1948, a son of John A. and Sadie Bogacz Lukaszek. He grew up in New York Mills and graduated from Notre Dame High School. In July, 1969, he began serving his country, entering the U.S. Army and serving in Texas, during the Viet Nam War, until his honorable discharge with the rank of PV2. Afterwards he continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves, until honorably discharged in 1980.
On May 16, 1970, John was united in marriage with Kathleen Davis, at St. Paul’s Church, Whitesboro. For many years the couple resided on Elmwood Avenue, Yorkville, before moving to their present home in Remsen, in 1993. This was a loving union of 52 years, until Kathleen passed away on July 14, 2022.
For many years John was employed as a purchaser for Kelsey Hayes / Utica Corporation, Whitesboro, in the manufacture of blades for aircraft turbine engines. Later he was employed in the lumber department of Lowes Hardware of Utica, and then for several years as a clerk at C & R Hardware Store of Forestport.
John and Kathleen attended St. Mary of our Lady of Czestochowa Church, New York Mills and after moving to Remsen, St. Ann’s Church, Hinckley.
John loved his canine friends, especially his dog “Jack.” He was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills football team and he greatly enjoyed mowing lawns; for several years he operated a lawn mowing business in the Remsen and Forestport areas. For several years along with a group of others, he served as a caretaker of Beechwood Cemetery, Forestport.
John’s family was the true center of his life; he is survived by a daughter and son in law, Kimberly M. and Ronald Scouten, Forestport; a son and daughter in law, Ryan and Melissa Lukaszek, Big Moose, NY; two grandchildren, Michael Scouten and Abigail Scouten; sisters, Phyllis Carzo, New York Mills, and Jacqueline Wojtanowski, Utica; a brother in law and his wife, Tom and Judy Davis, New Hartford. a special nephew and his wife, Robert and Renee Williams, Mohawk as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Josephine Ryczek; brothers in law, Carmen Carzo and Walter Wojtanowski and sisters in law, Bonnie Williams and husband, Robert and Doris Trojan and husband, Fred.
A Memorial Service will be Friday, August 25, 2023, at 6:00 P.M. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville, where Rev. Matthew Rawson, of Christ Our Hope Parish, Boonville, Forestport and Otter Lake will officiate and where visitation hours are Friday from 4-6 P.M.
