Monday, January 29, 2018I remember Harky delivering ice cream and milk to my parents' drive-in (1954-1976) in Alder Creek. He was always joyful. On a recent summer visit to Boonville, I visited Harky and Jane with a friend, Patsy Bowen. We exchanged memories and laughed a lot. Thank you, Harky, for gracing our lives with your presence!

Sunday, December 24, 2017Dear Jane and family, I’m so saddened to hear of the news of Harky’s passing. I realize your family has suffered great tragedy these last few years, and I pray for your healing. I always had a great respect for Harky. He was a man with an incredible work ethic, a man of high moral integrity, a tremendous aptitude for business, and someone who always treated people fairly. I am grateful for the employment he provided for my Dad over the course of all of those years, as well as the wonderful retirement party that he and the company hosted in his honor. I am grateful to Harky for the employment he provided me at a very young age and throughout my teenage years so that I would have spending money in my pocket. Jobs were extremely tough to come by in Boonville in those days and Harky went out of his way to offer me a position of trust. I tell stories often throughout my life of my early years in the dairy. You would be absolutely amazed at how people find these stories to be of great interest. They always want to know the magic behind making ice cream and what it means to homogenize and pasteurize milk. While in upstate New York, nearly everybody is familiar with the process, very few in Southern California are equally as aware. Believe me when I tell you that many of the management traits I exercised as a first and second line supervisor throughout my own career, I inherited from working under Harky. I learned the value of honesty, hard work, integrity, and the difference between what’s right and what’s wrong, and most of all, the value of taking responsibility for one’s own actions. Harky was always engaged in several tasks simultaneously and did not often care for sitting around wasting time. However, when ever I, or any of the employees at Mercer‘s, had come upon a problem, Harky would always listen and selflessly dispense his wisdom immediately to correct the problem, whether it was personal or professional. He was always quick with a good answer, which always gave us confidence in his leadership as the captain behind the helm of Mercer’s Dairy. Harky will always be remembered for having been a citizen of his community, in every sense of the word. Harlen Bellinger has been, is now, and will forever be an iconic name in upstate New York. A consummate professional businessman, a successful entrepreneur, a man with a sense of duty and commitment to his community, and most importantly, a good husband to his wife and a good father to his cildren. Today, I honor your husband and your Dad, Harlen K. Bellinger. I tear up as I write this because of the profound respect I have always had for Harky. The world is a different place now, without his presence. I know Harkey was a man of faith so I say the Catholic prayer for the repose of his soul, in Jesus name, I pray for the eternal rest of Harlan Bellinger, that he knows the Lord, and that you, Lord, will have mercy on him and bring him into Your eternal presence, so that he may know Your eternal joy, oh Lord, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, amen. Peace be with you all during this difficult time. Joe & Annie Ralph
