Obituary of Richard Boek

~~Rome- Richard E. Boek, 60, of Lorena Road, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017 in the comfort of his home.

Richard was born on August 15, 1956 a son of Millard E. and Ann Sessions Boek.  He was raised in Westernville, graduating from Rome Free Academy with the Class of 1974.  He furthered his education receiving his Associates Degree in Communications from Herkimer County Community College and his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Utica College.

On August 13, 1983 Richard was united in marriage with Michelle King in Westernville.  The couple moved to Lorena Road in Rome in 1988 where they raised their family and have since lived.  Richard was a skilled carpenter and was proud of his work with the crews that built the Olympic facilities in Lake Placid in the years leading up to the Winter Games of 1980.  Richard was employed with Rome Housing Authority, reaching the position of Executive Director where he retired in 2012.

Richard had countless memories of time spent at his camp in Highmarket, NY. He enjoyed spending a weekend at camp with his friends and family, hunting or fishing.   He was a proud supporter of St. Patrick’s Church and regularly attended the annual socials when they were held. He was also very proud of his bragging rights associated with winning his awards at the Beard Contest during the NYS Woodsmen’s Field Days. Richard had a passion for skydiving and was a member of LAGNAF out of Ava.  A true free spirit, he found great joy in the rides and miles he put on his Harley Davidson Road King. When not on the road or up at camp Richard could be found singing and playing the guitar.

Besides his wife Michelle, Richard is survived by his son Brent Boek and his partner Ana Greene and granddaughter Avery Jane of Utica NY, his daughter Emily Boek and her fiancé Mark Martell and granddaughters August, Evelyn and Lillian of Jeffersonville, VT, a brother David Boek, Altmar, a brother Robert (Kathy) Boek, Boonville and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents.

At Richards request there will be no calling hours.  A Celebration of his life will be held at Lake Delta State Park in Westernville at Tent #4 on Saturday July 22, 2017 from 12pm to 6pm.   Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Fisher House (fisherhouse.org) in Richards name to support families and veterans while they receive medical treatment.
