Obituary of Haver Gydesen
Lowville- Haver James Gydesen, 91, of State Rt. 12, widower of Connie E., passed away at his residence on Thursday, April 20, 2017, while surrounded by the loving care of his companion, Shela Luther and friends, Janet White and Linda Crofoot.
He was born on April 17, 1926, a son of Peter and Sarah Fey Gydesen, on the Gydesen Homestead farm on the Shibley Road, Town of Lyonsdale. Later his family moved to the Constableville area, where he attended a rural school, before attending Constableville High School. Haver left high school to serve his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps, stateside, during WW II. Later he received his GED and after serving his country, Haver attended Airplane Mechanics School, at Roosevelt Field, on Long Island.
On May 31, 1952, Haver was united in marriage with Constance E. “Connie” Zimmer, at St. Mary’s Church, Constableville. After their marriage the couple lived in the village of Constableville, moving to their present home near Lowville, in 1963. Connie passed away on February 9, 2004.
Mr. Gydesen was first employed at J.R. Hoffman Tractor Dealership of Lyons Falls. Later for 26 years, he was employed as a Mechanic’s Inspector, at U.S. Army Base, Ft. Drum.
Until his illness, Mr. Gydesen was an active member of St. Mary’s Church, Glenfield, where he served as an usher for many years. He greatly enjoyed woodworking, oil painting and making wooden buckets. He will be fondly remembered for his own authentic Adirondack Cabin which he constructed. He also enjoyed playing pitch, he was a member of the Glenfield Fish & Game Club and for many years Haver was a Hunter Safety Course instructor.
Haver is survived by one son and daughter in law, Mark and Melissa Gydesen, Victor, NY; one daughter and son in law, Jacquie and Bill Obernesser, Jr., Frankfort, NY; five grandchildren, Miranda (Nate) Murphy, Travis (Sandy) Richards, Maegan Richards, Melanie and Michael Gydesen; two great grandchildren, Hunter and Kieran Murphy. Also surviving is his fiancé and loving companion, Shela Luther and her six children and their families. Additionally, Haver is survived by four sisters, Sylvia Zeigler, Boonville, Erma Planck, Sackets Harbor, NY, Lucille (Booty) Munn, Utica and Eva Mae (Ed) Swiernik, Turin and by many nieces and nephews and God children. He was predeceased by a two brothers, Donald Gydesen, Nelson Gydesen; and by one sister, Kathleen Bauer.
Haver’s family wishes to extend a sincere note of thanks and appreciation to Dr. Lynn Pisaniello and staff at Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, the Luther families, Janet White and U.S. Care Girls and Jeff Gydesen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Church, Glenfield, where Rev. Christopher Carrara, will officiate. Interment will follow in Old Glendale Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday 4-7 p.m. at Trainor Funeral Home, Inc. 143 Schuyler St. Boonville.
